The occurrence of bacterial vaginosis is a pretty common occurrence among women. Well over a million women will have this problem each year. Of all the home remedies some women use for bacterial vaginosis, boric acid probably ranks among the most common home treatments. The real question is, does boric acid really work or is it just an old wives' tale?
Do You Have Bacterial Vaginosis?
The first question that must be answered is do you really have bacterial vaginosis. It is possible to feel itching, pain while urinating, pain while having sex, or a discharge that is white or gray. It's important to follow your doctor's instructions during pregnancy; it is a good idea to avoid any treatments that are not prescribed by your doctor.
Why Boric Acid?
For those women who have suffered from bacterial vaginosis boric acid has proven to be an effective treatment. Boric acid is a white powdery substance with properties that are anti fungal and antiviral. Since bacterial vaginosis is commonly caused by a bacterial infection or other types of infection, boric acid can help get rid of the bacteria that is causing the infection.
You can find pre-made bacterial vaginosis boric acid capsules that can be placed into your vaginal area, but you also have the option of making your own capsules. You can purchase empty natural gelatin capsules from the health food store and pharmaceutical grade boric acid at the drug store.
To make your own bacterial vaginosis boric acid capsules, you will need to place approximately 500 mg or about 1/8 teaspoon, into each capsule. Insert one capsule each night at bedtime and cleanse in the morning. Do this for a total of two weeks. At that point you should be rid of your bacterial vaginosis and hopefully will never see it again.
How to Avoid Getting Bacterial Vaginosis
To avoid getting bacterial vaginosis again don't use scented tampons, or scented soap when you wash up your vaginal area. The perfumes in them may cause these bacterial growths or upset the balance of good versus bad bacteria. When you wash your panties, make sure you've gotten all the soap out of them. Practice good hygiene as well as protected sex to avoid future occurrences.
